Opportunity For All

We have a number of challenges that I will work on, which include:

  • Creating a safe environment during COVID while bridging the gap for those who don't have technology, time or other resources.

  • Bringing our budget back in balance without undoing some of the most needed programs.

  • Respecting the community's voices and balancing the needs of our diverse student body.

  • Working smarter and identifying specific intervention while using resources wisely.

My grandfather Faustino Sandoval first settled in Santa Paula in 1926, fleeing the after-effects of the Mexican Revolution.  Working at Limoneira, he and my grandmother raised 5 children here including my father Alfonso (“Al”), who in turn married my mother Maria (“Mary”) and raised his 5 children in Santa Paula as well.  I left for college after graduating from Santa Paula High, and after many twists and turns, have been back home since 2017.

My experience is vast and varied.  I graduated with a bachelor degree from the California Institute of Technology with Honors in Engineering.  After that I spent time volunteering in, and then running, a homeless shelter in Hartford, CT. I also received my Ph.D. in Sociology at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.  During that time, I established a professional career in computer programming, which I still practice.  I was also blessed during that time with two wonderful children from my late first wife, my youngest being born with Down syndrome.

Since graduating, I have worked as a consultant with small businesses and Fortune 500 companies, finding cost savings and waste.  I have taught at the university level and presently do so at Cal State Channel Islands and Cal Lutheran.  I also got remarried to Jenny Crosswhite, a current Santa Paula council member.  Although I have been back for only a few years, I am already involved in improving Santa Paula and Ventura County.  I sit on the Blanchard Community Library board, the Santa Paula Unified School District’s LCAP committee, the board of First Christian Church of Santa Paula, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Family Justice Center Research Committee, the Santa Paula Census Complete Count Committee, and am a member of the Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce.

I believe my experiences, both personal and professional, make me a well-qualified candidate for the Santa Paula Unified School District Board.  It would be an honor to have your vote.
